Automotive supplier investing $1.9 million in new Troy manufacturing plant

A global automotive supplier wants to expand its presence in Michigan.

Wellmei US Inc., a company that provides molds and parts for the automotive industry, will soon be calling Troy home of its first North American manufacturing plant.

The project is expected to generate a total private investment of nearly $1.9 million and create 71 jobs over five years.  The new facility will provide space for mold production to serve the automotive and medical industries.

The company, which has five factories in Asia with more than 4,800 employees worldwide, is expanding its presence in North American because of an experienced increase in sales.

As a result of the project, the company will receive a $355,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant to support its investment. Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Ohio.

The city of Troy has offered marketing services and talent assistance in support of the project, according to The Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

The company already has a sales office located at 3155 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy.
